Install

Kohana is free to download.

1. Open the App Store (iPhone and iPad) or Google Play (Android).
2. Search for Kohana and tap Install, or use the store buttons on kohana.live.
3. Open the app.

Language

The app is available in English, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese and Vietnamese. It uses your device's language when it is one of these, and English otherwise.

The first launch

The first time you open Kohana it shows a short app tour: Welcome to Kohana. An app to play & make visual novels. Tap CONTINUE to step through it, or SKIP to leave it. The tour walks you through creating a novel, adding a chapter and a scene, and adding your first actions, so it is a good way to see how the editor fits together.

You can replay the tour whenever you like from Settings > Help > App tour.

Notifications

Kohana can send push notifications, for example when a creator you follow publishes a novel, or when an export finishes. When you allow notifications, Kohana immediately shows the list of notification kinds so you can switch off any you don't want. You can change them at any time under Settings > Notification Settings (see Notifications).

Do I need an account?

No. You can read novels, make novels and preview them without an account. You need one to do things that involve Kohana's servers: uploading a novel, commenting, following creators, private share links and export requests. See Account.

Your first novel to play

If your Library is empty, it shows a Sample novel. Tap it and Kohana downloads a small sample so you can try the reader straight away.
